Printmaking Kit in a Box
A Mini Etching Press in a BoxMy handheld etching press can print intaglio, relief and monoprints. This printmaking kit includes the handheld pocket press, plus everything you need to set up your printmaking station at home or on the go. It comes with my handheld 3.5" x 2.5" pocket press, an 8" x 9" rubber platen (also known as the press bed), two 8" x 9" felt blankets, illustrated instructions, and a large clip for clipping the setup to the edge of a desk or table. Each press is handmade by me. I saw, drill and sand each wood block before affixing the roller hardware and hand branding every press with the Art Cricket seal. I recommend starting with a water based ink and soaking high quality papers for 20-30 minutes. Refer to my blog for insight on using this press with a variety of inks, paints and substrates. Watch the video below to see how it works!
Pocket Printmaking Press + Magic Platen
A small yet mighty etching pressI designed this handheld press and Magic Platen for serious printmakers who need an alternative to a floor or tabletop press. This handheld small etching press concentrates your strength so you are able to print your etchings, monoprints, linoleum, woodcut and letterpress plates by rolling over your plate in rows. The Magic Platen stays put on the tabletop and holds your plate in place while you press because the yellow rubber coating causes objects to resist movement when pressure is applied. This blue platform is useful for embossing and collagraph prints because you can lay materials directly on the platen and they won't move when you roll over them with your press. I use it to create cards and prints with objects likes alphabet refrigerator magnets, wire shapes, cutouts, textured cloth, leaves and flowers.
Pocket Press + Magic Platen with Registration for Linocuts / multiple passes
A Linocut Press StationI created this Magic Platen design for linocutters and other printmakers who want to create multiple print runs on a single sheet of paper. This small linocut press and platen (your plate holding platform) features built in registration pegs that make it easy to line up your plates, and also makes it possible to print using with dry paper. This platen can also be used for pressing intaglio and monoprints. The pegs can now be used with paper punched using a standard Swingline 2 hole punch! You can use this press and platen to press etchings, monoprints, collagraphs and to create embossings as well as to create your perfectly registered reduction linoleum prints. The press is approximately 3" x 3" x 2.5" It is small enough that it can concentrate your strength to press even the deepest acid etched plates. The platen (the platform that holds your plate) is a 9" x 12" with a printing area of about 9" x 9". It is possible to extend your printmaking surface horizontally. This platen is now only available in blue.
Bench Hook for Carving Linoleum Plates
Use a bench hook to carve your linocut and relief plates to keep your fingers safe. I construct each bench hook by hand. Each has a lip at the top, as well as on the side so you can carve your plate at a natural angle. Each handmade bench hook is created from an oak panel, pine trim, antique brass screws, and primed with walnut oil for a natural and non toxic finish. It measures 11.5" x 9" x 1". These are custom made. Select whether you are right or left handed from the menu below. This listing only includes the bench hook. The linoleum plate, carving tool, and press are sold separately in the shop.
Print Drying Line
This custom line for print drying takes up just a few feet of space. Intended to hang in the corner of your studio (or kitchen) or across a doorway. The print drying line comes with 2 screw-hooks. The line has loops on either end that loop over these hooks. This item is handmade using twine and clothespins. It spans about 5 feet from loop to loop with a hanging area of approximately 3.5 feet. Each lines varies a little in length because each is handmade.
Custom Pocket Press Engraving
Pocket Press EngravingAdd a custom engraving to the top of your pocket press to make it the perfect printmaker gift. Simple logos and designs that can be completely filled in, or simple initials are welcome! I engrave these with a wood burning tool by hand so tiny detail is not possible. When you place your press order, send me a file with your image set to fit a 3" wide by 2.5" tall box. My email is Diana (at) printmaking press.com.
Just the Magic Platen
This listing is for printmakers who already have a Pocket Press and want to upgrade to a Magic Platen. The Magic Platen's surface is about 9.25" x 11.5" with a 9.25" x 10" printmaking surface. However, it can hold plates larger than the surface area. Refer to my blog Big Printmaking at Home. Why is a Magic Platen better? The Magic Platen has even more non-slip power than the rubber platen. This means less likelihood of the plate shifting during printing, but it also means you can lay objects directly on the platen to print, like these letters I use to create cards. The platen creates a better emboss because it is firmer than the rubber platen. It can be used on counter tops and all kinds of surfaces, whereas the rubber platen must be clipped to a tabletop in order to work. The Magic Platen easy to store on a single nail. Simply clip your felt blankets and hang it so it faces the wall.
